I led the design and art direction across this one-of-a-kind experiential piece for PUMA South Africa. A digital version of ping pong for their after-hours athletes. We turned phones into paddles, increased follower counts on the night, and sent them to their nearest PUMA store with exclusive discounts.

We turned phones into paddles, increased follower counts on the night, and directed players to their nearest PUMA store with exclusive discounts loaded.

The nerve centre of Pixel Pong, the app needed to be bold and concise, so players knew exactly where to start the game, find a Puma store and get their discount. And because the phone became your paddle, we added haptic feedback every time you hit the ball.

I designed three core versions of the game surfaces. One default and another two which activated if you hit a coin. Power Shot coins sent your ball charging past your opponent. While Speed Shot coins made the ball fly by so fast you'd be lucky to touch it at all.

Many hours of set up and prototyping went into the game before we brought it into the Puma Social Club. We started by taking over a meeting space in the office to test the experience and understand what was great and what could be improved before launch.
